Read moreThe Health Services Safety Investigations Body (HSSIB) contributes to patient safety at an international level through establishing and chairing the International Patient Safety Organisations Network and membership of the NHS Consortium for Global Health.
The NHS Consortium for Global Health (NHSC) is co-hosted by the NHS England Directorate of Global Health Partnerships and UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA).
NHSC provides a single point of access to expertise from the UK’s national health organisations. NHSC’s role is to bring together the people who can innovate and improve health systems, working in partnership with governments and health organisations globally. NHSC provides coordinated access to a range of senior specialists across the NHS and UK health sector offering credible, evidence-informed, value-for-money advice, contributing to national, regional and global health policies, strategies and programmes.
HSSIB has been a member of NHSC since August 2024, joining the Care Quality Commission (CQC), National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), NHS Resolution (NHSR), Office for National Statistics (ONS), Public Health Wales (PHW) and the Health Research Authority (HRA).
We are currently exploring knowledge exchanges with South Africa and the Philippines.
In 2023, in response to increased global interest in our work, HSSIB led the establishment of the International Patient Safety Organisations Network (IPSON).
IPSON brings together countries with an active patient safety organisation and those who aspire to have one. The objective of the network is to share learning, gain an understanding of the global common challenges we face and work on recommendations together to have a shared impact on patient safety. The network meets quarterly online and is chaired by HSSIB.
